How To Protect Your Eyes From Summer Heat

Summer days mean protection from the sun. So, we not only have to protect the skin but also think about protecting the eyes from UV rays. When you buy sunglasses, make sure they protect from both UVA and UVB rays. Another problem that can occur during summer is eye irritation from chlorine in swimming pools.

Chlorine can cause redness and dryness, and sometimes eye irritation. When you are swimming immediately take a shower after it, splash water on your eyes. Saline eye drops are also available. If dryness and irritation persist, then consult an ophthalmologist (eye specialist).

Home Remedies For Burning Eyes

Here are some natural ways to get relief from itchy eyes during summers:

Splash Cold Water

In summer, splashing on the eyes with cold water gives great relief. Contrast wash can relieve eye fatigue and puffiness. Wash off with warm water and then splash your eyes with cold water. This improves blood circulation in the eyes and relieves congestion.

Teabags To Rescue

Use tea bags as an eye pad to relieve fatigue and relieve swelling. Dip them in warm water, let them cool and use them as an eye pad. Very thin raw potato slices can also be used over the eyes, as can eye pads. They reduce puffiness and prevent skin problems.

Turn To Nature For Some Respite

Some natural ingredients are natural coolants. Applying cucumber juice or grated cucumber around the eyes provides relief to the eyes in summer and removes eye fatigue. Soak a cotton swab in cucumber juice and apply it on the eyelids like an eye pad. Lie down and relax for 15 minutes. It gives great relief from tiredness in summers. Cold rose water can also be used in the same way.

Use Almond Oil

The skin around the eyes is very delicate. It does not have any oil glands. Some of the problems that it suffers from are dark circles, puffiness and fine lines. In fact, the eyes are one of the first areas to show visible signs of ageing. The area around the eyes requires special care and gentle touch. As a home remedy for dark circles and fine lines, apply pure almond oil a little amount daily around the eyes and lightly massage the skin under each eye for a minute, using only the ring finger. Massage in one direction only. Avoid pulling or pulling on the skin. Leave on for 15 minutes and wipe gently with damp cotton.

Cucumber + Egg White

Mix cucumber juice and egg white. Apply under the eyes daily for 20 minutes. Wash off with plain water. Cucumber helps with dark circles. It has an astringent effect which tightens the skin. Egg whites nourish as well as tighten the skin.

Use Compressed Iced Water/Cold Milk

Apply a compress of cold water or cold milk directly on the closed lid and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Or, soak cotton swabs in cool rose water and let them sit under your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes.

Use Potatoes

Applying grated potato or potato juice around the eyes also helps in reducing swelling. So do tea bags. Dip them in warm water, let them cool, and then use them as an eye Pad.

Do Not Forget Sunscreen

Before going out in the sun, apply a little sunscreen lotion under the eyes. For lighter coverage, add a drop of water to it before applying.

Make Some Dietary Changes

The way to prevent dark circles is to include a nutritious and balanced diet, which includes fresh fruits, salads, yogurt and sprouts in the daily diet, along with unprocessed cereals, skimmed milk, cottage cheese, lentils and beans. Some daily exercise and deep breathing help with blood circulation, oxygenation and stress control. Adequate sleep and rest are also very important to deal with these problems.

For swelling problems under the eyes, first consult a doctor to make sure your kidneys and sinuses are working properly. Also get dietary advice too.
